Introducing Powerful New AI Features for Photo Analysis, Recipe Importing, and More

For Release On: Oct 10, 2024

Summary

Nearly five years after its initial launch, Foodnoms, the food tracking app with tight integration with Apple platforms, continues to evolve. This release introduces major new features powered by Foodnoms AI that make food logging easier and more intuitive.

Here’s what’s new:

  • Snap Photos for Automated Analysis: From the main scanner screen, take photos of your meals for Foodnoms AI to analyze. This powerful feature makes food tracking even more seamless by allowing instant recognition of what you’re eating.

  • Smarter Recipe Import from Websites: Now, you can easily import recipes by pasting a URL or using the new Safari extension. Unlike other apps, Foodnoms AI intelligently picks the most accurate result from the food database, ensuring that what you log reflects what you’re actually cooking. It can also use nutrition information provided directly from the website, if available.

  • Foodnoms AI – Redesigned for Clarity: Formerly known as Ask AI, Foodnoms AI now features a completely refreshed interface that walks you through the process step by step, showing what it’s doing as it works to ensure accuracy and clarity.

  • Create Recipes by Typing or Pasting Ingredients: Easily enter recipes manually by typing or pasting a list of ingredients, simplifying meal planning and recipe management.

  • Control Center Widgets: Quickly access the Foodnoms scanner and log screen from new widgets in the iOS Control Center, putting powerful features right at your fingertips.

  • Refreshed App Icons with Dark and Tinted Variants: ****All app icons now offer dark and tinted variants.

Foodnoms AI sets itself apart by using real nutritional data from the Foodnoms database, combined with generative intelligence (powered by ChatGPT). It determines what to search for, finds the most relevant results, and chooses portion sizes automatically. This eliminates the hassle of manual input, saving you time while ensuring accuracy.

Foodnoms continues to grow, with its database now containing over 630,000 unique food items. Most generic foods are based on or derived from laboratory analysis provided by the USDA, ensuring high accuracy and trust in the data you log.

Foodnoms is free to download, with an optional subscription priced at $39.99/year or $5.99/month (USD). Free users can try out Foodnoms AI with 10 free usages to explore its capabilities before committing to a subscription.

Why This Update Matters

Since launching Foodnoms five years ago, my goal has been to make food tracking as seamless and quick as possible.

Tracking nutrition offers real benefits, but many people don’t stick with it because it can be time-consuming and tedious. I believe generative AI is a game changer for food tracking, as it removes much of the tedium.

Previously, Foodnoms’ Ask AI feature simply estimated nutritional values, which worked for occasional use but came at the cost of accuracy. With this update, Foodnoms AI now operates like a user would:

  1. Identifies what it needs to search, either from a picture or natural language.

  2. Selects the best result from the Foodnoms database.

  3. Chooses the appropriate portion size.

  4. If a clear match isn’t found, it tries alternative search terms or ways to describe the meal.

This evolution of Foodnoms AI has unlocked two of the most requested features: accurate recipe importing and photo analysis. I’m very excited to offer these capabilities to all Foodnoms+ subscribers.
