Introducing Foodnoms' Revamped Shortcuts Integration, Built for Apple Intelligence

Foodnoms has always prioritized making nutrition tracking faster, smarter, and more intuitive. Today, I'm thrilled to announce our most ambitious update yet to Foodnoms' Shortcuts integration—redesigned from the ground up to take full advantage of Apple's latest platforms.
We've been working on this update for many months, sweating the details and pushing the boundaries of what's possible with current APIs. Our goal was to create an unmatched automation experience that makes nutrition tracking more accessible and flexible than ever. We're excited to finally offer it to you today.
What's New
The Foodnoms Shortcuts integration has been completely overhauled. The new capabilities dramatically surpass the existing ones—more powerful, better designed, and with deeper integration with Spotlight and Siri.
44 Powerful New Actions
This update includes 44 powerful new actions across 8 categories:
- Foodnoms: Core app functions and navigation
- Food: Search for food from the Foodnoms database, get food from your food log, manage saved food items from your library, and more
- Goals: Track, modify, and analyze your daily goals
- Library: Access and save items to your personal library of recipes, food, and meals
- Log: Track what you eat using Foodnoms AI, quick entry, searching the Foodnoms database, scanning a barcode, and more
- Meal Types: Get a list of your meal types (e.g. Breakfast) and associated settings
- Meals: Create and manage your saved meals
- Recipes: Create and manage your saved recipes
Together, these actions offer a tremendous amount of flexibility to craft automations that fit your daily tracking workflows.
App Shortcuts
Also included are nine App Shortcuts that let you take advantage of these new capabilities without any configuration, accessible via the Shortcuts app, Spotlight, and Siri:
- Open Scanner
- Open Foodnoms AI
- Quick Entry
- Search
- Open Foodnoms with sub-options for Food Log, Library, Goals, and Settings
- Log with options for Food, Recipe, Meal, Favorite, and Drink
- Check Goal Progress with a dynamic list of all your active goals
- Log Favorites with a dynamic list of your favorites
- Copy Meal From Yesterday with a dynamic list of your meal types

Spotlight Integration
Foodnoms now brings its functionality to Spotlight search, allowing you to access app features, check goals, and log food without even opening the app. You can also search for items from your library. Simply swipe down on your home screen and type what you're looking for.
Pre-Built Custom Shortcuts
We've collaborated with Matthew Cassinelli , who worked closely with us to design, build, and document these new capabilities. Matthew has created seven custom Shortcuts that demonstrate the power of the new actions:
-
Ask Foodnoms AI (iCloud link ) Generates a request to Foodnoms AI using text, an image, or both. Includes options to log results immediately or refine parameters through additional prompts.
-
I need more protein (iCloud link ) Checks your remaining protein goal, then suggests foods, recipes, meals, and previously logged items with the highest protein content. Offers options to log or open the chosen item.
-
Log with Foodnoms (iCloud link ) Presents a menu similar to the app's Log screen, with smart suggestions, database foods, AI logging, library items, favorites, and logged foods. Includes the option to create new food entries.
-
Check my daily goals (iCloud link ) Retrieves all your goals for today, allows you to select which to check, and displays your progress through each one sequentially.
-
Change goal for cheat day (iCloud link ) Offers a simple way to set one-day exceptions for any goal, showing current values and requesting new targets. Includes options for permanent changes.
More examples are available in this help article . We hope they inspire you to create your own shortcuts!
Future-Ready for Apple Intelligence
By leveraging the latest Apple-provided APIs like App Intents, App Entities, App Shortcuts, Transferable, and CoreSpotlight—Foodnoms is prepared to integrate with Apple Intelligence features as they become available. While Apple's current offerings to third-party developers are limited, you can still experience Foodnoms' Siri integration today. Try saying:
- "Search in Foodnoms"
- "Check my Foodnoms Sodium goal"
- "Open Foodnoms AI"
- "Open Foodnoms barcode scanner"

Notable Improvements for Existing Shortcuts Users
If you're familiar with the previous set of Shortcuts actions, you'll be happy to know that the new ones solve some common pain points:
-
The new Ask Foodnoms AI action supports images and provides a Log Immediately option, so you don't have to pass the result to a separate action. It also preserves portion information from the generated results, making it much more useful than the previous Foodnoms AI action.
-
The new Check Goal action returns a Goal type with many fields, including the goal target, amount consumed, and all goal settings. This gives you significantly more flexibility compared to the previous Get Goal Status action that just returned a simple text string.
-
The Log Food, Log Recipe, Log Meal, and Log Drink actions have been unified into a single, more powerful Log action which adds additional support for logging Favorites.
The previous set of actions are now deprecated and won't be available for creating new shortcuts, though they should continue to work in shortcuts you've already made for a short period of time. These legacy actions will soon be removed, so I recommend migrating to the new set of actions as soon as possible.
I'm also happy to report that the new actions have better support when run from Apple Watch. The actions are still executed on your iPhone, so for the best experience, build shortcuts that are simple and don't process large amounts of data, otherwise you may get an "execution timed out" error. You may also need to disable the "Open When Run" setting if you get a "Could Not Run" error.
