Introducing Foodnoms Cloud: A New Account System and Syncing Option

Today, I'm excited to announce Foodnoms Cloud, a new syncing and account service built from the ground up with privacy, clarity, and future growth in mind.

What is Foodnoms Cloud?

Foodnoms Cloud is a new syncing option that allows you to sync your Foodnoms data across devices using a secure, privacy-preserving service. It also replaces the previous "Community Database" sign-in system with a more straightforward account experience.

Foodnoms Cloud is powered by Supabase , a trusted, GDPR-compliant backend platform.

What's New

  • Foodnoms Cloud syncing option: An alternative to iCloud for syncing your data across devices.
  • Simplified accounts: A cleaner sign-in experience that replaces the Community Database system.
  • Updated Privacy Policy : More clarity on what data is collected and how it's used.

What Stays the Same

  • iCloud syncing remains fully supported. If you're happy with iCloud, you don't need to change anything.
  • You can still use Foodnoms entirely offline and without an account.
  • Your data is never sold or shared with third parties.
  • Privacy remains a core value.

Why I Built Foodnoms Cloud

This has been in the works for over two years. Here's why I built it:

  1. Some folks can't or prefer not to use iCloud, whether due to storage limits, managed device restrictions, or personal preference.
  2. Relying solely on iCloud for data syncing poses long-term risk for the product and business.
  3. It unlocks new opportunities like potential web or Android versions someday (though no concrete plans yet).

Privacy and Your Rights

Foodnoms Cloud is built with privacy in mind from day one. All data is encrypted at rest and in tarnsit, GDPR and CCPA compliant, and never shared with third parties.

You have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your data at any time. You can delete your account directly from the app, and I'm always available at privacy@foodnoms.com for any questions.

What Changes for You

For existing users:

  • iCloud remains available and fully supported.
  • Foodnoms Cloud replaces the legacy "Community Database" account system.
  • When you create a Foodnoms Cloud account, your iCloud data and sync settings remain unaffected.
  • You can manually switch to syncing with Foodnoms Cloud instead of iCloud, and you can switch back at any time.

For new users:

  • You'll default to Foodnoms Cloud, but can switch to iCloud sync from Foodnoms Settings > Sync & Data Export > Manage Cloud Data > Advanced.
